News from Rancho Cortez....

New Speakers and Classes at the Fitness Ranch!

Starting in June, the Rancho Cortez fitness program is expanding to include new classes designed to complement our existing program and challenge participants to even greater goals. The new offerings include:

Registered Dietician Letty Holmbo (Mondays, 4-6 p.m.)
Letty will begin a new series on weight management designed to provide instruction on becoming a conscious eater and detail how personality affects eating style. Students also will get tips on social eating and more. Each class includes a full, healthy dinner prepared by Letty herself.

Professional Life Coach (Tuesdays, 3-5 p.m.)
Life coach Leia Francisco will lead this 8-part series on redesigning your life. Each workshop is a stand-alone program, but together they integrate components of life redesign into a cohesive whole and provide for a more comprehensive experience.

Hypnotherapist Pat Labeda (Wednesdays, 3-4:30 p.m.)
Pat will focus on self-healing through hypnosis, which enables guests to tap into their own inner reservoir of strength to improve their health, lose weight, overcome addiction, and manage pain. These group sessions provide straightforward, simple instructions for bringing this technique home.

All sessions are provided to Rancho Cortez fitness program participants at no additional charge. A small number of spots will be open to the general public, but we ask that you call at least one week in advance to reserve a spot. Additionally, all speakers are available for one-on-one consultations and ongoing support.

Cowgirl Horse Camp Begins in June!

Girls, it's time to get your gear and saddle up for this year's Horse Camp at Rancho Cortez. Beginning the first full week in June, we'll give young cowgirls (ages 8-16) the opportunity to learn how to care for, saddle, and ride a horse with the skill and confidence of an experienced handler. Better yet, all campers will be taught to barrel race and will have the chance to participate in a real Bandera, Texas rodeo.

We intentionally keep our groups small and limited to girls, except for one week when we have an all-boy horse camp. We want all of our campers to leave the ranch with lots of smiles, a memorable summer, and horsemanship skills to last a lifetime.

Get program details and make reservations for your cowgirl to spend the summer doing something they'll cherish for years to come.

We are excited to announce the Grand Opening of “Just Yakin’ Kayak Rentals and Delivery” in Marble Falls. We fell in love with kayaking a long time ago. The ability to be so close to the water without the sounds and smells of a motor is a wonderful thing. Sometimes we kayak to get an incredible workout and other times we do it for a leisurely stroll, admiring the homes and beauty of the shoreline. We have three young children and look forward to all the memories we will make on our kayaks!

Just Yakin’ is here in the Highland Lakes area to provide you with hours of paddling fun. We will deliver our kayaks to your vacation spot or to your home, so you can take it with you on your next vacation. We have sit-on-top singles and tandem kayaks. Our kayaks are very stable and perfect for beginner and intermediate paddlers. You rent…we deliver. It’s that easy to get your YAK on!

Consider renting a kayak for your next vacation at the lake, for your next birthday party, for a trip down a river or to the coast. Kayaking is a family friendly sport that is gaining a lot of popularity for a good reason. We also offer gift certificates…reserve online or by phone.

THE TERRACE GRILL WILL BE CLOSED FOR DINNER ONLY ON SAT., MAY 29TH
Dear Friends of Riven Rock Ranch,

Unfortunately, for we 'foodies,' The Terrace Grill will be closed for dinner only on Sat., May 29th to accommodate a wedding. Happily, this should be the last time we're closed for a wedding this summer. We genuinely appreciate those of you who regularly return to dine with us, and we hope this doesn't inconvenience you too much. We will be open for dinner Memorial Day weekend on Friday and Sunday, and for lunch on all three days. Hope to see you soon!

Chris, Elaine and the entire crew at Riven Rock Ranch

“As travelers we’ve all discovered a place so wonderful that its worthiness is obvious. And sometimes that place is so experiential that superlatives don’t do it justice; you just have to be there to know. These sights, properties and experiences get our highest rating. . . .”
Grape Vines Galore!

Over a relatively frantic three to four days starting on the 10th of May, Chris and his crew finished installing the irrigation system and planted just over 1800 grape vines. Some of you know that we planted some later in the summer last year, but due to drought and hot weather they didn’t thrive, so we’ve started over. So far, so good! We had overcast days the beginning of the week that kept the baby plants cool, and then we had a couple of inches of rain for their thirsty little selves. We're thrilled they are all getting a good start and we anticipate harvesting some Tempranillo and Viognier grapes in the future!

New Summer Menus to be Introduced Friday, June 4th
We are going to be tempting you soon with some exciting new menu items for summer at The Terrace Grill. Even though we have unique specials every weekend, it’s nice to change things from time to time. So, the first weekend in June, you will notice some brand new items ‘in’ and a few of the older items ‘out’ for awhile. It’s always fun for Joseph and his crew to do some different things, and he always has excellent ideas.

Along with the menu changes, we will be having some fun, light & refreshing Summer Wine Specials. This is our restaurant manager, Bonnie’s, specialty and she’s very enthusiastic.

Congratulations to Our Two Special Employees who will Graduate from Comfort High School on June 4th, 2010!!
Our own sweet girls, Carolina Robles, left, and Shkynah Adame, right, are happily graduating from Comfort High School on June 4th, 2010. Carolina has earned marvelous scholarships which will pay for her continuing education. She will be attending nursing school at Schreiner University in Kerrville and expects to earn her degree to be a Registered Nurse. From all of us here at YMCA Camp Flaming Arrow, we want to extend to you an invitation, an invitation to this spring's 2nd Open House. Our Open House will be May 2nd from 2 to 5 pm at YMCA Camp Flaming Arrow.

On April 25th, we had our first Open House of the season and Mother Nature blessed us with mist and rain. While this was great for the grass, this may have deterred you. We want to make sure you and your family have ample opportunity to visit CFA prior to summer camp and experience camp for yourself. If you are a first time camper/parent, come on out to see what your child will be a part of this summer! If you are a returning family, simply come and enjoy the spirit of camp!

You might be asking yourself, "I'm already registered, and I have gone to camp before. Why should I come out to the Open House?" And here is our answer, "Because you can earn discounts by bringing friends AND we are also giving things away...camp store gear and also a week of camp! And plus, the horses will be available for pony rides" Can't get much better than that!

Here is what you will see at the Open House:
-Bill will be giving tours to parents, telling them about our summer camp and traditions as well as also showing you the cabins where your child will be staying.
-Several program areas will be open! We will be have some horses available for pony rides, kayaking, as well as archery and the climbing wall will be available. These areas aren't open just for the campers - they are open for you too! Please come and take part!
-Prizes will be given away! Everyone who registers for the Open House will be receiving a ticket for the drawing at the end of the Open House. We will be giving away t-shirts and other items from the camp store, as well as A WEEK OF CAMP!!! All winners must be present to accept.

Discounts you are able to earn:
-Bring a friend to the Open House and you will receive a $5 credit to the Camp Store.
-Have a friend register for summer camp, and earn $25 for each new registration. If your friend registers at the Open House, we will give you receive and additional $25 credit to the Camp Store.

RSVP today...so we know how many cookies to make!! Or if wake up with the camp bug, come on out to CFA! We would love to host you and your family!

See you on Sunday!!! Rain or Shine!!!
