The Museum of Western Art Exhibits Charles M. Russell: Master of Western Art Traveling Show

Kerrville – The Museum of Western Art is opening its newest exhibition, Charles M. Russell: Master of Western Art. This is a traveling show organized by the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana. It examines Russell’s life as a painter, sculptor, illustrator, writer, and friend using objects from the Russell Museum’s permanent collection.

Charles M. Russell: Master of Western Art includes eight sections that showcase Charlie Russell’s life and artworks using numerous framed photographs, bronze sculptures, framed prints, illustrated calendars, illustrated books, and a framed illustrated letter and newspaper clipping.

These eight sections of the traveling show emphasize the following: the general biography of Russell’s life, his career and evolution as a painter, his hobby of sculpture becoming a professional career, the business of reproductions of his artwork, Russell’s illustration work for articles in periodicals and books, Russell’s own career as an author, his natural ability to make and keep lifelong friends, including movie stars, authors, and politicians, and finally a look at Russell’s abiding affection for his horses.

Charles M. Russell: Master of Western Art will be on exhibition at The Museum of Western Art from October 8, 2009 – January 2, 2010. This show will travel across the country and be shown at numerous museums to give a more in-depth and personal look at the famous cowboy artist’s life and art.
