Dance to Cajun/Zydeco at Fredericksburg Roots Music concert

It’s the last chance this year for Roots Music fans to dance, dine, and enjoy authentic music at Fredericksburg’s Pioneer Museum on Saturday, Sept 26, 2009.

The concert’s theme is Cajun and Zydeco.

Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band perform from 8 to 10 p.m. Billed as "The World's Premier Zydeco Showman," the third-generation zydeco artist started playing in his dad’s band. Carrier has toured the world with the Bayou Swamp Band and recorded five CDs.

Charles Thibodeaux grew up in Beaumont, Texas, hanging around his cousin’s legendary Rodair Club in Port Acres. Influenced by Cajun musicians Andrew Cormier, Rodney LeJeune, and others, Thibodeaux started learning Cajun accordion at 16. He formed Austin Cajun Aces in 2004, and has built a following throughout Texas.

The Gulf Coast Playboys Trio return for their second Roots appearance. Their fans favor their mix of down-home, traditional Cajun two-steps and waltzes, country two-steps and shuffles, plus Tex-Mex polkas, cumbias and more.

The Longhorn Street Cafe will lay out a Cajun-style spread from 5pm-10pm. Meal includes Shrimp Gumbo; choice of Shrimp Ettoufee, Crawfish Ettoufee, Boudin or Red Beans & Rice; Herb Roasted Potatoes, Mixed Vegetables, and Dinner Roll; and Baileys Apple Crisp Cobbler for dessert.

Meal is $10. Beer, wine, soft drinks available for purchase. Admission is $12. Students high school age and younger are free. Parking is free. The Pioneer Museum is located at 325 West Main Street in Fredericksburg, with concert entrance on Milam Street.

Roots Music is a series of live, open-air eclectic concerts on the grounds of the Pioneer Museum on Main Street in Fredericksburg, Texas. Concerts feature both emerging and established artists in an informal, family setting.

Music fans can enjoy Cajun music, Cajun cooking, and nonstop Cajun kicking at the next Roots Music concert at Fredericksburg’s Pioneer Museum on Saturday, Sept 26, 2009.

Three top Cajun and Zydeco acts make a rare stop in the Hill Country Music scene for this final 2009 concert.

The Gulf Coast Playboys Trio start off the evening at 6 p.m. The Gulf Coast Playboys first amazed Hill Country fans at the 2004 Roots series, and return with a full set of down-home, traditional Cajun two-steps and waltzes, country two-steps and shuffles, plus Tex-Mex polkas, cumbias and more.

Wimberley Valley Art League 2009 Annual Art Show & Sale

The Wimberley Valley Art League (WVAL) announces its 16^th Annual Art Show and Sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; November 13, 14 and 15, 2009.

This year’s event will be held in the Johnson Hall of the Wimberley Community Center, RR 12 and River Road, at 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 12:00 to 4:30 on Sunday. There will be an artists’ reception on Friday, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Wimberley’s reputation as an active artist community draws patrons both local and area-wide who are interested in viewing and purchasing paintings, sculpture, photography, ceramics and fine jewelry offered by members of the Art League. Fiber arts and needlecraft will also be shown. It’s the perfect place and the perfect time to shop for unique artwork gifts for the holidays.

Approximately 600 items from more than 50 artists will be on sale, representing such local favorites as Lilli Pell, Pat Haggerton, Bob Fowler, Herb Smith and Bill Meek as well as prizewinners in the WVAL bimonthly gallery shows.

POPS Showcase in Fredericksburg

Anyone planning a celebration, event, wedding, meeting, conference, or reunion for 12 to 1,500people is invited to attend the first Pioneer Opportunities Party Showcase (POPS) at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg on September 17.

Hosted by the Gillespie County Historical Society and The Marquee Event Group, this event is designed to showcase the Pioneer Museum grounds and buildings as a venue for meetings, conferences, weddings, and family celebrations. According to the Co-Chairs Brent Waldoch and Janie Trantham, the event will also highlight the services of 36 local vendors, including caterers, artists, musicians, florists, photographers, and others.
